Inscription reads:

In memory of the officers, non commissioned officers and men of The Royal Sussex Regiment who fell in South Africa 1900-1902.

Beneath this inscription is a panel bearing names of the fallen, underneath this the dates 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 have been added either side of a laurel leaf.

The memorial stands on the seafront and is surmounted by a bugler playing his instrument looking out to sea, it is directly opposite the sadly derelict West Pier.
