The statue of a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded Allied captain to safety is on Pine Ridge at the southern boundary of the Anzac battlefield. It is based on an incident reported by Lieutenant Casey (who later became Governor General of Australia) and symbolises the chivalry and compassion shown by both sides in the campaign. |

The statue of Corporal Seyit commemorates a Turkish hero of the naval bombardment of 18th March 1915 and is sited just outside Kilibahir, the Turks' main fort on the Gallipolli side of The Narrows. When Seyit's gun loader was destroyed, he carried and loaded a 275 kg shell on his own to keep his gun in action. |
