The Nécropole is an extension of the old German Garrison Cemetery dating back to 1872 after the annexation of Alsace following the 1870/71 Franco-Prussian war. It lies to the West of the town in the suburb of Cronenbourg, along the A35/A4 motorway and contains 5 483 graves, from both World Wars, mainly French and German. 28 british soldiers (15 from WWI and 13 airmen from WWII) also rest here. At the main entrance follow the path straight on for about 50 m until you reach a memorial under some willows. The British graves are left an right of it. Another single tomb is situated in section E, on the far left of the cemetery. |
