Remembering the fallen
Our original idea behind this site was to record our visit to all 940, 1914-1918 Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemeteries with 40 plus burials in France and Belgium. In all it has taken us 6 years to complete the task that we set ourselves back in 1998. Our aim at the time was to visit and pay our respects in each of the cemeteries in Sidney Hursts' book "The Silent Cities", we are proud to be able to say that we have walked around each and every one of those cemeteries, from those huge and well visited cemeteries such as Tyne Cot near Ieper and Pozieres on the Somme to those that receive barely a handful of visits each year such as Mazargues War Cemetery in Marseille and Toutes Aides, in St Nazaire, on the west coast of France.
The site is very much an amateur production, we don't claim to be experts and we don't have the resources of some sites. We are pleased to be able to say that we are officially recognised by both the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and the Australian War Memorial. This site is very much a labour of love and our sole intention for the site is to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom all those years ago.
The site is funded solely by ourselves and without the aid of any outside bodies, we receive no sponsorship and maintain the site ourselves in between our normal work and family lives. we are not in competition with anybody or any other site, there are many excellent sites on the web, this site is purely our homage to the fallen.
We hope that you enjoy visiting the site and that you find it informative and interesting.
