Namur was attacked by the Germans on 20 August 1914 and its forts destroyed by heavy artillery, its garrison abandoned it at midnight on the 23-24th August and it then remained in German hands until the armistice.
A Casualty Clearing Station was set up here at the end of the war and hence many of the burials here died after the armistice.
GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Namur can be found off the E42 motorway. The cemetery is located to the west of the city in the commune of St. Servais. Leave E42 Junction 12, onto the N4 toward Belgrade, the cemetery can be found on the left before the church and railway. Access and parking are easy and this rarely visited cemetery is easier to find than you would expect.
