This cemetery was started in July 1915 by men of the Territorial battalions of 49th (West Riding) Division. It is one of a group of three small, pretty battlefield cemeteries in this small area, the other two, visible from outside the cemetery are; Dragoon Camp and Welsh (Caesar’s Nose) cemetery. Colne Valley was the name of a trench in this area, others such as Huddersfield Road and Skipton Road all bear witness to the Division’s home area. The cemetery remained in use until February 1916.
