Dragoon Camp was close to the Boesinghe-Pilckem road, it was approached by a track which led from Dragoon House past Villa Gretchen, indeed, the cemetery was originally named Villa Gretchen Cemetery. This area was taken by the 38th (Welsh) Division on 31 July 1917, the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres. The cemetery was started by the 13th Royal Welch Fusiliers on 9th August 1917 and was in use until October 1917.

This cemetery is one of three small, pretty cemeteries in the immediate area, the others are;  Welsh (Caesar's Nose) cemetery and Colne Valley cemetery.
