This cemetery which takes its name from a farm that once stood opposite is a fine example of a regimental cemetery, many of the burials were made in the early years of the war. It was originally begun in July 1915 by the 9th Essex and 7th Suffolk Regiments (Rows A-C). It was further used by the 11th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers (Rows D-J) and the 9th (Scottish) Division (Rows J-Q), there were a number of other burials before the cemetery was completed by service battalions of the Royal West Kent and Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiments in May and June 1916. The cemetery fell into German hands from 10th April to 29th September 1918, when the area was recaptured.
