GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Take the N8 Veurnseweg from Ieper in the direction of Elverdinge, upon reaching Elverdinge turn left onto the N333 Steentjesmolenstraat and a further 4.5km along this road (which will by now have changed name to Elverdingseweg) on the right is the cemetery. Access to the cemetery is via a 400m grass track and can be difficult.
Originally started in July 1917, in the period between the Battle of Messines and the Third Battle of Ypres, the cemetery, originally named after a farm known to the army as Gwalia Farm, lay amongst camps in what was a flat and very wet area. It was used by fighting units, artillery and Field Ambulances until September 1918. In Plot 1 Row H, are buried 14 men of the 9th Lancashire Fusiliers, all of whom were killed on 4th September 1917 by a German air raid on ‘Dirty Bucket Camp.’
