GENERAL DIRECTIONS:The cemetery is south-east of Kortrijk on the N8. From the E17 motorway take junction 3 (Kortrijk-Oost) and drive onto the N8 towards Zwevegem, continue along this road through Zwevegem and Knokke and into Heestert. Once into the village take the third right (Plein) go past the church and the cemetery is on your left.

 

Held by the Germans throughout the war, the village of Heestert was taken by British troops at the end of October 1918. The cemetery was started around February 1919 by farmers of the commune, acting under instructions from the local Burgomaster; they concentrated the graves of British and German battlefield burials from their farms. In 1920; the graves were reorganised and the German graves were placed at the south end of the rows, and later that year three British graves were brought in from Moen Churchyard.
