GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Leave Ieper via the Lille Gate, go directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road and take the N365 in the direction of Armentieres. Upon reaching the village of Wijtschate the first right turn leads onto Hospicestraat, which leads to the village square. From the square take the Wijtschatestraat and after approx 1.5km turn right and the cemetery is approx 0.5km on the right. Access is via a path that runs beside the farm and parking is adequate on the road.

 

Irish House was a small farm house away to the west of the cemetery site. It was started by the 16th (Irish) Division in June 1917 and continued to be used until September 1918. Row A of the cemetery contains the graves of 33 men of the 1st Gordon Highlanders who were killed in the 3rd Division’s attack on Wytschaete in December 1914. These soldiers were re-buried in this cemetery by men of the 16th (Irish) Division in June 1917.
