GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Leave Ieper via Torhoutstraat, this leads onto Kalfvaartstraat, at the end of this road is a large junction, take the first right into Brugseweg (N313) the cemetery is 10km further along this road on the right.
The village of Poelcapelle, was taken by the Germans, from the French on October 20th 1914, it was retaken by the 11th Division on 4th October 1917 before being evacuated in April 1918. The village was finally retaken by the Belgians on 28th September 1918. It gave its name to the battle of the 9th October 1917; one of the battles of Third Ypres. The cemetery was made after the armistice by the concentration of small cemeteries from the surrounding area.
Further Information: This cemetery has the grave, of what is believed to be the youngest known battle casualty of the war. Buried in Plot LVI. F. 8, is Private John Condon of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment, he was killed in action on 24/5/1915, aged just 14.
