Potijze was within the British lines throughout almost all of the war. The Chateau was used as an Advanced Dressing Station and was eventually destroyed by shellfire; all these three cemeteries were built on, or in the grounds of the remains of the Chateau. Potijze Chateau Wood Cemetery was started in April 1915 and used throughout until June 1917; it was once again used in 1918.
