CEMETERY

Quievrain

Hainaut

Belgium

GENERAL DIRECTIONS: The cemetery is located 20km west of Mons on a road leading from the N51 which connects Mons to Quievrain and continues through to Valenciennes. The Rue Grande (N51) passes directly through the village of Quievrain and forms a junction with the Rue des Wagons in the centre of the village. Take the Rue des Wagons for 500m and turn left onto the Rue du Chateau d’Eau. The cemetery can be found 400m along this road at the junction with the Rue du Cheval Blank.

Further Information: Access and parking are easy, it should be noted that visiting the British plot is restricted to normal cemetery opening hours.

The Belgian Red Cross established a hospital, later taken over by the Germans, at Quievrain, and the Communal Cemetery in the village was used by the Germans for the burial of British prisoners. In November 1918, a British plot was formed in the North-East corner of the cemetery, and the existing British graves transferred to it.
