GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Leave Ieper via the Lille Gate, go directly over the crossroads with the Ieper ring road and take the N365 in the direction of Armentieres.Upon reaching the village of Wijtschate the first right turn leads onto Hospicestraat, which leads to the village square. From the square take the Wijtschatestraat for 1.5km before turning left into Scheerstraat. The cemetery is in the fields, approx 500m on the left.

 

Further Information: Access is via a 200m grass path and parking is extremely difficult and is only possible by leaving the vehicle on the verge of a very narrow road.

 

This pretty cemetery is named after a windmill which stood nearby, it contains burials from the first two days fighting of the Battle of Messines in 1917. The cemetery was destroyed in later battles but re-discovered after the armistice.
