Talana Farm was one of a group of farmhouses named by the army from episodes of the South African war. The cemetery here was begun, in April 1915, by French troops, and later taken over by the 1st Bn. Rifle Brigade and 1st Bn. Somerset Light Infantry in June of that year. The cemetery continued to be used until March 1918.
