GENERAL DIRECTIONS: Leave Ieper via the Lille Gate, and take the signs for Armentieres (N365), after 900m just before the railway crossing turn right onto Kemmelseweg (N331) and follow to the first crossroads, turn left into Ruusschaartstraat and the cemetery is 1km after the junction on the right, just in Voormezeele Dorp.
Originally numbering four, although now only three remain, the Voormezeele enclosures were started early in the war. Originally graves tended to be in regimental order. The cemetery was continually used until the area was captured by the Germans on 29th April 1918.
Enclosure No.1 was originally started by the 28th Division in March 1915, and added to by other units fighting in this area, four graves were added by the Germans in 1918, and these can be found in row N.
Enclosure No.2 was also started in March 1915 and used until April 1917. After the armistice, 42 graves from the old No.4 enclosure were brought in. The two enclosures are now treated as a single cemetery.
