Le Hamel Communal Cemetery

Le Hamel is a village in the Department of Somme, some 17 kilometres east-north-east of Amiens. When in Lamotte-Warfusee on the N29, turn left to get to the village. To get to the Communal Cemetery, take the road behind the church and at the T junction turn to the right. The Commonwealth war graves will be found at the rear right corner of the cemetery.

There is 1, Commonwealth, 1914-1918 war casualty commemorated at this site.

 

 

Burial details:
 
Dvr. J. GILPIN.  129th Field Coy. Royal Engineers, 1 Aug 1916, aged 21. Son of Leatham and Isabella Gilpin of 124 School Row, Oakenshaw, Willington, Durham. His inscription reads:

"No matter how we call
There is nothing left to answer
But his photo on the wall"
