GENERAL DIRECTIONS: From the station turn left and drive along M. Fochlaan to the roundabout, here turn left into M. Haiglaan and continue for 300m before going right into M. Plumerlaan, the cemetery can be found a further 200m on the right. Parking and access are easy.

Originally there were three cemeteries made in the area close to the Western Gate where Ypres Reservoir Cemetery stands, two were made between the prison and the reservoir, but these were both later removed, the third was at first called "Cemetery North of the Prison" and later "Ypres Reservoir North Cemetery", before gaining its present name. The cemetery was started by fighting units and Field Ambulances in October 1915, it continued to be used until after the armistice. At the end of the war, the cemetery contained 1099 burials, but it was greatly enlarged from the concentration of burials here from smaller cemeteries and the surrounding battlefields.
