Schalbach Communal Cemetery

Schalbach lies 5 km west of Hirschland (see above). There are two cemeteries in the village. The graves of six airmen whose bomber was shot down on 24th Febuary 1944 are in the second one at the outskirts of the village on D 46 towards Veckersviller. One of the graves is that of A. J. Hewetson, navigator of another bomber which crashed nearby on 28th July 1944.
