Septmonts Churchyard

Septmonts is a village in the Department of the Aisne, 8 kilometres south-east of Soissons. The church is in the centre of the village and the five burials of the Second World War are on the left hand side of the churchyard. The airmen died on the 17th April 1943.

Unit: 429 Sqdn. Bomber Command
Aircraft: Wellington, Mk III, serial BK162
Target: Mannheim, Germany
Incident: Crashed south-east of Soissons. Of the six aircrew, five are buried here but Sgt. J. R. Milne survived and escaped capture

Sqdn. Leader Frederick Arthur HOLMES, D.F.C., aged 28. Royal Air Force. Son of Ernest George and Maude Holmes of Broadstairs, Kent


Flight Lieut. Gerald Alfred LUNN, aged 23. Royal Canadian Air Force. Son of Edgar Charles and Mabel Lunn of Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada


Flying Officer John McMASTER, aged 24. Royal Air Force. Son of Robert and Elizabeth McMaster; husband of Julia Nellie McMaster of Norbury, Surrey
